Burg Hohenwerfen
What to expect
In the middle of a beautiful mountain landscape, you’ll find this medieval castle, Burg Hohenwerfen.
The castle is located on a rock at an altitude of 155 metres, about 40 km from Salzburg. You can reach the castle in two ways: on foot or by lift.
On foot, you will reach the top in about 15 minutes. We went by lift, which is obviously even faster. You pay about 18 euros for one person for the round trip. Dogs are also allowed on the lift!
What to do
There are various exhibitions, there is a guided tour where you can go into the tower, you can walk around the courtyard (here is also a tent where you can get coffee etc. and there is a restaurant), you can visit the shop and there is a bird show. With a dog, of course, you cannot take part in the tour, but the dog can come along to the bird show. There are several things to do for children.
The best view
From the castle you have a beautiful view of the mountains and the Salzach river, but of course you want the perfect photo of the castle.
You’ll find it if you search for Berghotel Garni Burgblick in Google Maps. There is plenty of parking here and you have a great view of the castle!
