Dampfbahn Ebermannstadt

Always wanted to go back in time? The nostalgic steam train makes it come true. Together with your dog, you can start the train journey from Ebermannstadt station, where there is plenty of free parking. You pay 18 euros per person for a return ticket. Tickets can be bought online, or on the train itself.
DAMPFBAHN FRÄNKISCHE SCHWEIZ
Inside, the train looks exactly as you imagine it, with wooden benches. You meander beautifully through the valley and have great views of the river, the mountains and sometimes even a castle ruin.

The ride takes about 45 minutes to Behringsmühle. From there you can take the train back 15 minutes later, but of course you can also choose to walk back to the starting station from there. You also have the option to canoe part of the way back. In fact, at the terminus there is a canoe rental company.
The train only goes on Sundays and only a few times a day, so check departure times carefully.
After the ride, you can let your dog splash in the river or have a nice bite to eat at Gasthof Sponsel.

Near Ebermannstadt, you will also find Greifenstein Castle, a beautiful medieval castle!

Supping with your dog

How fun is it when you can be out on the water with your dog? At Leinen Los in Erlangen, it is possible to rent a sup that your dog can join you on!
You can also rent rowing boats or pedal boats, or you can enjoy lounging by the water. There are signs at the lake saying no swimming in the water and that dogs are not allowed, but when we were there it was busy with people swimming and there were also many dogs present.

Hike opportunities
There are so many fantastic walks to do in Fränkische Schweiz. Here are a few of our highlights:
Drei Zinnen Grossenhöhe
You may be familiar with the Drei Zinnen in the Dolomites. Don’t expect the same here, but you certainly have a nice view of the three (small) rocks!

Burg Rabenstein
There are so many opportunities for walks around Burg Rabenstein. From the valley, you have beautiful views of the castle. In addition, you walk past several caves. If you wish, you can visit Sophienhöhle, but dogs are not allowed, so we skipped this cave. When you arrive at the castle, you have the option of a refreshing drink in the beer garden!

Burg Veldenstein
You can also take all kinds of beautiful walks from Burg Veldenstein. When we were there, the castle was being renovated, so everything was in scaffolding, but the surroundings are again very different from the previous two walks. You walk through meadows and forests and have beautiful wide views.
During our walk, we passed the Distlergrotte. If you dare to go through the narrow entrance, you are in a 90-metre-long cave. Make sure you have good equipment with you though, as you won’t see anything without a good torch!
