Chiemsee
Germany's biggest lake
We have gone several times with Shampoo to Chiemsee, a beautiful lake surrounded by the Bavarian Alps.
At the lake, you can hike, have a drink and eat on the terrace, swim, cycle, rent a boat, go to Herrenchiemsee castle and much more.
We prefer to drive to Prien am Chiemsee, but you can also catch the old steam train to Prien am Chiemsee from Prien Bahnhof.
Castle HerrenChiemsee
From Priem am Chiemsee, boats go to Herren Chiemsee, one of Ludwig 2’s castles. We have never done this with dogs (we have done it without dogs), but dogs are allowed on the boat to the island on which Herrenchiemsee stands. You can find out more on the website!

Rent a boat
We love to rent a boat and enjoy sailing on the Chiemsee ourselves. So far, we’ve always had great weather. On the way to Chiemsee rain, but as soon as we arrive the sun breaks through.
At Bootsverleih Stöffl you can rent several electric boats on which dogs are allowed. Depending on how fast you want the boat to go, you can choose a boat.
We always booked in advance, because it can be very busy and then you don’t know whether a boat is available. If you book, you do have to pick up the boat by 9.30 in the morning.
The cost is between 20 and 30 euros per hour, depending on the boat you choose. You can’t book boats in the middle of the day, as they don’t know in advance when people will come to return the boat. Please note, you can only pay in cash.
Moreover, the car parks are often full if you arrive later in the day, as the boats to Herren Chiemsee also leave from this spot.

A great way to spend the day!
We would definitely recommend taking your dog for a boat ride, and if the weather is really nice, you can take your dog for a dip in the water.
On your return, there are several catering establishments where you can have something to drink and eat.
