Karlsruhe Region

Canoeing with your furry friend - Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen

What you might not expect near a city like Karlsruhe is that you can be in a completely different world within 20 minutes or so. In Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, you imagine yourself in an environment of silence, where you only hear and see many different birds. The nice thing is that you can experience this tranquillity from a canoe. At Vogelmann-Adventure it is possible to rent a canoe and your dog can come along too!
You sail a round trip, so you don’t have to arrange transport back to your car. Once you pick up the canoe, you can use it all day. You have to return the canoe before 17 pm. We used the canoe for about 2.5 hours. Halfway the tour there is a small beach where you can take a rest, a dive and have a picnic. This trip is definitely worth a morning or even the whole day!

Note: Vogelmann-Adventure also offers other tours and in other regions.

Baggersee

A great place to go with your dog is the Baggersee. This lake has several swimming zones: for horses, for people and for dogs. The last beach is especially for dogs! We even taught our dog to swim in this lake a few years ago!

Turmberg Durlach

The Turmberg is the local mountain of the former Baden residence town of Durlach. The mountain is 256 metres high and the most northwestern peak of the Black Forest, at the transition between the low mountain range and the hilly landscape of the Kraichgau. From Durlach, you can take the Turmbergbahn uphill, which we found a funny activity to do with our dog. However, you can also just drive up by car. When you reach the top, you have a great view of Karlsruhe and the Black Forest. Especially at the end of the day, you have a great view as the sun sets. At the top of the mountain, you have Hofbistro Anders auf dem Turmberg , located in the old tower, where you can sit nicely and where you can have beautiful views while having your drink or snack.

BADEN-BADEN region

Baden-Baden

A pretty town in beautiful surroundings with plenty to do is Baden-Baden.
First, of course, you can walk through the town’s cosy streets. There are plenty of cosy coffee shops and restaurants and the town has some nice shops.
Do not forget to walk to the Trinkhalle and make a wonderful walk along the Lichtentaler Allee.

Tips:
– If you like Chinese food, Lotus restaurant is very tasty and affordable!
– When you fancy a good cup of coffee,
Kaffeehaus Baden-Baden is the place to be!
– In the mood for a delicious flammkuchen? Then we recommend
Le Bistro

Therme

If you are staying in a hotel where your dog is allowed to stay alone in the hotel room, you can go to the Caracalle Therme or the Friedrichsbad. The latter bath is also very impressive inside. You go in different stages from cold water to hot and back to cold again. Note: you do this completely naked.

Geroldsauer Wasserfall

A beautiful piece of nature in Baden-Baden can be found at the Geroldsauer Wasserfall. You can do several walks here and your dog and yourself can cool off in the water! There is also a biergarten at the beginning of the walks where you can have a drink and eat when they are open.

MerkurBergbahn

From Baden-Baden, you can also take the MerkurBergbahn. This train takes you to the top point of the Merkur mountain. From here you have a great view over the Black Forest and Baden-Baden. Your dog is also allowed on the train and on top you can do some hiking or have a nice meal in the restaurant.

Altes schloss Hohenbaden - Ebersteinburg

Schloss Favorite

Close to Baden-Baden you will find the beautiful Schloss Favorite. This baroque palace was inhabited by the wife of Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden-Baden. Guided tours are available in the summer months, but unfortunately dogs are not allowed inside. However, you can take a lovely walk through the garden and near the car park there is another schloss café where you can have a drink.

Pforzheim Region

Kloster Maulbronn

Monastery Maulbronn is considered one of the best-preserved medieval abbeys north of the Alps, which is why it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 1993. There is a large car park at the monastery and you can start your hike from there. As soon as you enter the grounds of the monastery, you feel that it is a sacred place. Several walks are available from the monastery, from simple to very difficult: Komoot walks near Kloster Maulbronn. Bear in mind that at the start of your walk, you will have to climb a steep staircase.

After your walk, you did earn a delicious cake at Wagnerhaus!

Ravensburg

Take a beautiful, varied hike through Naturpark Stromberg-Heuchelberg. You start your round at the Ravensburg car park and from there you walk through and past meadows, vineyards, grain fields and forests, and you have nice views of the castle. On your return, enjoy a drink in the biergarten or something to eat in the castle’s restaurant.

After your walk, you can have a look around the quaint towns of Eppingen and/or Bretten.

Heidelberg Region
